Rod and Deanne Padel operated the go kart track at the Lake County Fairgrounds from 1994 to 2000, but it was always their dream to have a piece of property of their own to build a track they could call home.
They found a piece of property big enough, and with the financial backing of Kathleen Miller and Ron and June Rose, their dream became a reality. They worked on the property for over three years, getting it ready to become a racing facility. After a long permit process and many hours of hard work from many different people, the facility was built.
Delberts Memorial Raceway got its name from being dedicated in the memory of a very special family member of ours. Danny “Delbert” Rose was our cousin, but much more like a brother, son, uncle, and friend to all. His passions included family, friends, and racing. He had a daughter that raced karts, and his other daughter was the pit crew. Danny loved speed of any kind, the more radical and crazy the better he liked it. Danny could always make you laugh with his unique gestures or just his smile. Danny loved life, racing his own #40 stock car, riding his Harley, and racing karts with his daughters. Danny lost his life in an auto accident on September 23, 1999 at the young age of 36. His family and friends will never forget him and have worked hard to build this speedway that bears his name. The hope is that all the families that race here will enjoy the sport and enjoy the time that they spend together.
So now when you see the number 40 on everything, you know why. It is all about family, racing, and having fun.
A special thanks to Kathleen Miller, Ron Rose, and June Rose for providing the land for Delberts Memorial Raceway.
